Evaluating websites

what can the URL tell you?

Is it someone's personal page?
-look for personal names following a title(~)
-a percent sign
-the words users,members,or people

What type of domain does it come from?
-Educational(edu), nonprofit(org), commercial, government(gov.)

What are the implications?
-Investigate further to find out.....

Scan the perimeter of the page and look for answers to the following:
links that say the following:
- "about us", "philosophy", background"," biography"
- last update
- who created the page
- e-mail address or other form of contact

Links off of the site
- other resources
- "additional sites'','' related links'' - key words

Links referring to other documentation
-footnotes, evidence of research

- inform,give facts, give data
-explain,Persuade
- sell

Might it be irony, satire, or a parody?
- tone, outrage, exaggeration
